My sister had to drive me to the Giant today; we weren't able to get groceries delivered this weekend. And the chicken then got left in her car, so we might not see it again until pretty late in the week. Still, we have enough to last out the week pretty easily now. The main worry is what happens if the power goes out, since we won't be in position to flee anywhere warm, the way we did last time it went out when it was really cold. OPM has now officially declared we're all teleworking tomorrow. If we're not back in the office by Wednesday, I won't go in this week at all!
After spending much of the last two weeks making recording attempts at my new song, I finally sat down this evening to decide which of the successful ones to put up. I ended up making iCloud links for three different videos as I tried to choose, but eventually went with my Boxing Day recording of a little ditty I've been hearing a lot of these past nine months:

Getting this recording was difficult enough. I spent a month struggling to get through it without my hands slipping on the black keys, and the pollen didn't help either. I was mildly shocked when I managed this one this morning.
This evening, after deciding to post it, I plugged the iPad in to upload it. And discovered Microsoft is now importing all Apple device videos as a certain kind of MOV file, demanding you pay for the codex for watch them, and also demanding you form the new Microsoft accounts I've been resisting dealing with. I wasn't even sure the video I needed had been successfully imported either. I promptly started looking at other options for getting it onto this computer, and eventually the iCloud link I directed the iPad to email to me showed up, and I was able to download it, still in MP4 format. Not that Apple made this at all easy either.

And I ended up going with yesterday's recording.

We didn't get to the movies yesterday; none of the ones we cared to go to were playing at times that worked. Today, however, we went over to my sister and brother-in-law, watched the Vera Christmas special, which was pretty well done, and opened presents. As well as a Jester jumper, I got three books, gift cards for EA, a bottle of dust cleaning gel!
Just got home, discovering I'd left my purse there in the process, but my sister can bring it over tomorrow. Also went through the three best records I've gotten of this song, and went with the one from yesterday morning. It's my first time experimenting with the function key, adding a dual voice to this one, though I ultimately removed the chorus effect I had in originally.

I'm mostly packed, the boarding pass is downloaded onto my phone, and I've even booked the taxi to the airport. (Later than recommended, actually, but not by too much.) I'm still figuring out my schedule after that, but as well as the day at the Con, my sister's been invited to two parties, and is taking me as her +1. It's actually going to be a much less busy SDCC for her, with a number of the panels she would be covering cancelled. Of course I support the writers' and actors' right and really their need to strike, and let my first San Diego Comic Con be whatever it will be. I very much intend to enjoy it.
I also spent the past three days doing recordings of my latest song. I actually got five of them, but as soon as I finished this last one, my mother rushed in to declare it perfect and tell me to post it. I definitely wouldn't go that far, but it is pretty much the best of the five.

I think pollen season is already interfering with my sinuses, but at least I did get this recording:

After four weekends of attempting to record this through arm pain during one of them and sinus issues during all of them, I'm finally going with my recording from Friday morning.

Glad I got this one.

Yesterday I managed to get a recording better enough than the rest of them that I'm definitely going with it.

At this point it was already feeling inevitable: the Pentagon has raised the health protection level back up, and the library and conference center are once again closed, meaning we're all teleworking again until further notice. And I'm actually glad of it, given how alarming the latest news is. Maybe I won't quarantine myself off completely, but I think I will try to minimize my use of the metro for a while. Still haven't heard back from our two afflicted D&D group members, but I have been hearing it's taking people an eternity to receive their test results.
And like last time, this was when I finally found myself ready to post my latest song:

The iPad app hasn't crashed out again, but now my sinuses are acting up, and yeah, this is the recording that's getting posted.

This is another one where more complications arose after the first recording attempt, with my even changing which keyboard I played the accompaniment on. Though at least that meant I could accompany this classic from Labyrinth with a vocal setting known as "Goblin Synth."

After getting through three successful recordings this weekend through worsening sinuses, I've finally gone with the one I did yesterday. Thus ends my experiment with straining my vocal range with a song that seemed like an easy one until I actually tried to record it.

After two weekends of various recordings of a song I want done with before possibly things get even worse, I'm finally going with this recording from yesterday.

After too many sinus issues, keyboard issues, low note issues, camera experiments, and occasional forays into the mind palace, I have finally posted a recording of this song:

Kind of an odd one to be doing when we're all holed up at home, but of course I chose it long before most people thought that would happen.

Been trying to record this one for a while, but there was just about every problem, and it wasn't until this morning I finally got a recording I could be satisfied with. More or less.

I seem to be on an Irish kick this year, from "Falling Slowly" to U2, and now, the Corrs. After two weekends of trying to record this one, I think the first recording I made's going to be the best I'll get. Except now for some reason I can't seem to get the embed code, so just watch it here.

Where I do a recording of a song, and even if it wasn't as perfect as I imagined, I realize immediately this is probably the best I'm going to get on camera. This one took me four weekends of trying to record through lingering and returning sinus woes. Getting this video was a downright relief.

The sound qualify on my twenty-five year old keyboard was getting bad enough I finally decided to try getting a new one. I ended up getting the more modern version of my old one, with the ability to do quite a few things I might start exploring, and hundreds of voice settings-but not the one I'd been using for this song. I finally managed to find one that came close enough, and recorded this:

Just in time, too; it's very possible my sinuses are about to take my voice out of commission for a while...
