Ian alarmed us this week, with his suddenly not eating very much. This is a cat that, in his youth, made me think we ought to have named him Garfield, what with his being orange and how much he ate. Though he hasn't at any point stopped eating entirely. We think. We finally had a mobile vet come in to look at him and run some tests. He didn't find anything seriously wrong, just the general effects of his being so old. He's eating a little more now than he was. We've been bring plates to him, which may have helped a little, and we're even looking at possible new kinds of cat foods.
I also managed to finally finish the next part of this.

Matt had expected things to go a certain way his first couple of weeks at Landman and Zack, and in all ways but one, they did. )

I fancied when I came home today I would have a post to make about it. But honestly, I don't know what to make of it yet, so that is all I will say right now.
Meanwhile, I did do some writing this week, and discovered in the process that I had finished the next part of this some time ago without realizing I had done so. So I'll be posting that instead.

Title: Habeas for Superheroes

Characters: Matt/Foggy, Marci, Jennifer Walters, Karen, Malcolm Ducasse, Jessica Jones
Disclaimer: Now Disney owns them.
Warning: Ross on TV again

First message: They’re filing charges against Scott Lang’s girlfriend and her father just for inventing technology? Surely even the Accords can’t be used to call someone guilty by association. Second message: Another announcement from Ross tomorrow. )

Yesterday when I woke up the mouse and keyboard's freezing up and the off button being reluctant to work meant my computer spent much of the day frozen. I was forced to call the IT support group I've been trying to avoid ever since mom discovered their political views, who ended up reminding me you can force a laptop to shut down by holding the off button down long enough. So I can use the computer again, and the mouse and keyboard are even working right now, but I don't dare turn it off, or make any assumptions whether they will be tomorrow morning. They weren't this morning, which was when I also learned the city's planning to eliminate the bus route I take to work!
Which is why I'm hurrying to post this one now, while it remains much less of a pain:

Bess Mahoney, Two Months Later )

I finished The Punisher today, finishing episode 11 before heading off to work, and getting through the rest on the way there, on the treadmill in the gym, and then on the way home, watching the final scene literally as I walked up the block to my house, through more snow on the ground than there was Wednesday morning. That also meant that this morning I said farewell to Karen Page, whom I believe is the third character in my life where I just got immersed in her mind as I wrote her, the first two being Stephen Maturin and Padme Amidala. I've got more ideas floating around in my head right now.
It didn't feel real, when the credits for episode 11 rolled. It feels like she should stride out of that hospital and go on to do more. But she’s a loss in the way most of the other characters aren’t. We can still get similar versions of Matt and Foggy and Fisk and all the other on the comic book page. Karen’s comic equivalent wasn’t much like her and has been dead 20 years.
So goodbye, the woman who wouldn’t stick her hand in the sand and let it happen to somebody else just because she was scared. Goodbye, the damsel who didn’t get in distress so much as stride furiously into it. Goodbye, the woman who was allowed to be angry, and reckless, and idiotic, without her story condemning her for it. Who didn’t have superpowers, but could get by on smarts and sheer nerve. Who is haunted by the mistakes of her youth, but hopefully will do more good than harm in the world. Who loved her vigilantes fiercely and loyally, but wouldn’t sacrifice her soul or her self-respect for them.
And who, to the end, was willing to sacrifice her shoes for a good cause. I don’t like everything about her final appearance, but that was a great note to end on. Goodbye, Karen Page. I’m rooting for you to get your happy ending, even if we don’t see it.

I started this one as my Secret Santa fic, but it ended up not feeling right for it. So I wrote the other one, then finished this one yesterday.

Title: And If You Don't Give Up, and Don't Give In
Fandom: Daredevil
Characters: Matt/Karen
Disclaimer: Now Disney owns them.
Warning: Parental death, mild sexual content
Note: I also kind of view this as taking place in the same universe as "The Epilogue," though it doesn't have to.

I wasn't there that morning/ when my father passed away/ I didn't get to tell him/ all the things I had to say )
missizzy: (evenstar)
Got involved in a Karedevil secret santa exchange. This resulted.

Title: From Black Dust
Fandom: Daredevil
Characters: Matt/Karen
Disclaimer: Now Disney owns them.
Warning: Discussion of attempted suicides
Note: For beaucannon.

If I show it to you now/ will it make you run away?/ Or will you stay? )
missizzy: (padme)
And then I have to figure out what the heck I'm doing with those characters. I'm hoping Season 2 leaves me with some ideas. Especially since I'm starting to run out of characters to do ficlets for.

Lily Ellison, Thirteen Days Later )

I suppose for the occasion it will do.

Title: The Epilogue
Fandom: Daredevil
Characters: Matt/Foggy/Karen
Disclaimer: Now Disney owns them.
Warning: Mostly fluff
Note: The fic I decided I would drop everything and write should Daredevil get canceled.

A lot of times all three of them had wondered if Matt’s eight year old son had maybe inherited just a bit of his enhanced hearing. )

My mother's birthday dinner got moved up to yesterday, her actual birthday. And I completely forgot about my dental bill, which now has to be mailed sometime this weekend, when at least it's apparently going to warm up a little. The dinner went pretty well, and we were all having a good evening-until we got home to the news that Daredevil had been canceled. It's not really that shocking at this point. We've seen the news about the low viewing numbers, and the evidence that Netflix was looking for an excuse. But it's still really sad, especially since we're likely to lose the entire universe. I'm trying to write a comfort fic, but it's not coming well. I'm not even excited about the Vision/Wanda series apparently coming up, and when I'd been really wanting to see more of them.
missizzy: (evenstar)
Well, he might have already been dead when the last one went up, but this is the one I wrote knowing it. William Goldman gone too. I don't even want to know who the third's going to be. Aristotle, Plato, Socrates...morons, compared to those two.

Karen Page, Eight Days Later )

For the moment, I'm still breathing, still blogging, still on Facebook but not really using it, and still extremely wary of what the hell is going to happen next, but still hoping I'll survive to see Trump's downfall (and myself drawn as a Jedi by Charles Soule). I also finished this, the writing of which helped keep me sane during the early hours of election night:

Marci Stahl, Six Days Later )
missizzy: (nature)
But first I was trying to figure out who to write next, then I was trying to figure out how to approach her ficlet, and meanwhile I was rather indignant at how the third season of Daredevil just dismissed Elektra when she'd seemed the more likely of the two people in the basement to survive a building collapse. Before that season dropped I'd intended to presume her killed in the snap, but if they killed her, I won't. So this ended up happening.
Also: GIP. Thought I'd never use that acronym again, but I snagged a pretty new nature icon from [profile] elasitcella

Elektra Natchios, Four Days Later )

Finished Daredevil this morning, which left me fully relaxed for the first time in well over a week. I have a great amount of respect for how well this season was done in general, as well as for how the main trio has, though not without qualms on some of their particulars. Also generally happy. So I headed off, head buzzing but heart light, for the the second day of the annual Depository Library Conference.
It was only when I reached the hotel that I realized I'd left my conference bag at home. I was left trying to take notes at the sessions on the back of a handout I recieved at the first, hoping noone would bother me over my lack of name tag. A two hour lunch break saw him hurrying home to grab it, and I was lucky to catch train and bus immediately and even have time to make myself lunch and sit down with it. Also I was there to let in the cleaning service when they showed up earlier than anticipated; we would've been charged if they'd shown up to find noone home. The conference ends tomorrow morning, and I'm only going these two days. I have certainly learned a lot about digital documents online and how the Government Publishing Office is cataloging them and such.
Got home and caught up with the various Daredevil fics posted to AO3 since Friday. Plus started the next installment of my current series. Thankfully there's only one real contradiction between what I've written in that series so far and the events of the season, and I've already come up with a workaround for that which I think will enhance the story anyway.
