Going to be a long pair of months
Dec. 6th, 2014 03:10 pm At the end of January, the Pentagon library will be cut in half. It'll lose another large space after that too later. This was planned since before I first started working there, but not on so fast a schedule. Now we're going to be closed half a day starting Tuesday so we'll have time to get everything weeded and moved. Really not looking forward to any of this. Though I've been working on weeding for months anyway. I've gotten better at it, or at least more ruthless, to the point I want to go back and reweed the sections I started with, but we may not really have time for that anymore, at least not until February.
I suspect my hands may be permanently scarred by this. Working with so many books in quick succession, I have gotten not just papercuts galore, but irritated skin, and right now I still have a oddly coloured patch between my right ring finger and right pinky. They feel rougher in general too, even though I apply hand cream in the morning most weekdays. I have carried so many loads and pushed so many overloaded carts I think I may be developing a few muscles. Who knew being a librarian could be such a physical job! Though we have received a crew of people who are supposed to move all the heavy things for us, but at this point having them take over such tasks makes me feel weird.
