Nov. 6th, 2025 09:22 amI finished watching the wedding shot this morning. I thought it would be a little strange to watch, since I don't think I'll ever truly be a Fjorester shipper. (Although man, you can't help but melt at the real life-related details. Travis Willingham has now gone from swearing he'd never roleplay romance to writing *that* speech.) But I'm now kind of stunned at how it felt to watch that one shot when you've shipped one Caleb Widogast with Jester and Essek both.
Because seriously, Caleb was amazing throughout that wedding. Starting with the amulets, and then continuing through that fight where he managed to steal the show without even being there for the start of it, right down to levitating the damn ring during the ceremony. The HWDYWTDS went to the guy who was doing everything he could to save the woman he loved and make sure she could happily marry someone else. The one he wrapped the show up by declaring this was always how it was going to turn out, that Fjord was always going to be the one Jester ended up with; he never even saw himself as having a chance. (And when Laura has now said he might have had things gone a particular way, but no convincing him of that, it seems.) And he was even aided in teleporting back by the marks of Jester's affection for him, the feelings that will always be there even if they both found romance with other people.
And, thankfully, it's much less painful, when you know Caleb won't go to bed alone that night. That he rebuilt the heart taken from him strongly enough to be in love with Essek, too, to take him from a stuffy villain to a good man and friend and lover willing to get a little freaky. Matt and Liam are clearly both having lots of fun with that, and hey, Caleb ought to be loved just like that.
