Dad arrived home from the hospital unexpectedly Monday. We thought he heart and bladder issues would keep him in until Tuesday at least, but they found medicine for the former and the latter was manageable at home, so home he came, after the discharge process managed to take a very long time, to a nurse named Ken who instructed us in administering food and water to him through an IV, since he can't have anything by mouth until July. That was nerve-racking, but it seemed like things were settling down. Tuesday came time to start crushing his pills, and my mom when ordering a mortar & pestle was obliged to buy six of them. Wednesday we thought we had it all down, but meanwhile were getting worried about his swollen elbow and ankles.
Turns out we were right to worry. Mom took dad to our regular practitioner this morning, and a number of unscheduled visits to various places later, he's been diagnosed with a blood clot. He and my mother are still out; they haven't been home since before I got home from work and there's no telling when they'll get home or what state dad will be in when they do.
Though all indications have it that there is no cancer left in his body, the doctors still talk of him having chemotherapy when he's recovered from the surgery. That right now seems so far into the future who knows what they'll think of the matter by then...
