As has become the custom in the library, I took my birthday off, and so was home to watch the new Pope be elected. Back when I was in undergrad and John Paul II died, I had a friend who got a little obsessed with the whole thing, and I've retained a bit of interest in it since, but I wasn't really able to follow as closely last time around. It does seem like the guy they elected won't be entirely unlike the guy who may have wanted him to be his successor, and at this point, you can only think it could've been worse. Especially when he's apparently anti-Trump. It seems a few places in the world may at least finally learn from our dark fate. Even if having an American Pope still feels a little weird.
I also watched Conclave recently. I've been amusing myself by looking through the tumblr tag ever since, though I'm honestly not feeling the whole old man yaoi thing so many others have gone for. Instead, I have a ridiculous need to see a video of the movie set to Taylor Swift's "Wonderland"-which, I should note, would be no odder than some of the other fanvids I've seen so far.

I'm not Catholic so it doesn't really affect me, but I hope he shows decent leadership.
