Just got back
Jul. 29th, 2024 10:15 pmMy first full-blown experience of San Diego Comic Con was ultimately quite a good one. I attended panels, I shopped on the floor, where my findings included a beautiful print of Gale, a sticker of Mrs. White talking about the flames on the side of the her face, and a book by Lucasfilm's former Director of Fan Relations. I managed to play a little D&D in a short one-short run by the Adventurer's League, which I'm now tempted to seek out here, though I don't think they're conveniently located. I even spent two hours sitting in the Hall H next-day line with some friends of my sister, but ultimately decided to forego said location to make sure I got into the Critical Role and Amazon Animation panels, which meant I spent much of Friday in the Indigo Ballroom and most of Saturday in Ballroom 20. I also attended the informal critter meetup after the panel on Friday, which was also an experience that was very worth it.
Most of what got released for the animated series made me very happy. I may even end up finally shipping Fjorester at this rate. Though it does concern me we still don't have season 4 confirmed, especially when all three of the other animated shows on that panel announced at least one new season, and Hazbin Hotel even got two! Hearing the history of said show, however, left me quite impressed, and kind of wanting to finally watch it. But what might have been even more fun was the DesiQuest panel, where they rolled with technical difficulties, switched panel roles, and spoiled me for the show a little (I've only just started the second episode), but it was worth it.
I'm also left a little sorry I don't have Paramount+ after watching the Ghosts panel in Ballroom 20; it looks like a great show, and I knew Utkarsh was fun, but he was truly a delight Saturday. The other shows I sat through panels for aren't ones I have as much interest in seeing (or seeing the recent episodes they were promoting), but I still found some parts of the Simpsons panel interesting, and I really enjoyed the Futurama table read, which especially showcased Billy West's brilliance as he so effortlessly switched between Fry, Farnsworth, and Zoidberg.
Staying a the Hotel de Coronado, on the other hand, is overrated, and it is not placed well for Comic Con attendees. It didn't help that the water was contaminated, so we couldn't get in, though I still did a little walking on the beach. The main thing I accomplished during my downtime was writing out another narrative interlude for my Baldur's Gate run, which I'll try to type up tomorrow, but it needs enough editing it may not get posted until Wednesday.
