Everything's Malfunctioning! Again!

Monday mom did her biggest thing professionally in a long while: she did a presentation over Zoom for the London Trollope Society. Except she very nearly wasn't able to, because less than half an hour before she was to start, her desktop lost its internet connection. It was a very good thing my sister was here, and was able to quickly set things up so she could do it on the laptop instead. We are now officially getting our internet upgraded, though we have no idea yet whether we're going to reward Comcast for this by going to their business class, or subject ourselves to more hassle by switching to Fios.
Although when the IT guy came later in the afternoon and fixed it, at least for the moment, he noted that while it was partly Comcast's fault for being lousy, it was partly that her computer's going as well. Which we got reinforced this evening when she lost sound. IT guy remoted in and confirmed the sound processes were happening on the computer; things just weren't getting to the speakers. He'll have to come again tomorrow.
So you can imagine our exasperation when taking dinner out of the oven caused the smoke detector to go off, which is something that had never happened before. But after years of sometimes not working, I'm starting to wonder if our stove is now working too well; I keep burning dinner, even when I'm more diligent about it.
The other thing that happened Monday, of course, was Hotelpocalypse results. My sister and I were actually both offered the Wyndham Bayside, which had been eleventh on my list of hotels. I don't know if she listed it, but I suspect not, because she and mom then decided we're doing the family vacation on Coronado. The villas turned out to be way more expensive than they thought, but she eventually presented a pair of rooms we could pay for, once her Hilton membership lowered the price and her husband confirmed he could come, thus splitting the price four ways. Still, we're each paying even more than I paid for my room in the Hyatt last year!
