missizzyMonday morning I had root canal therapy done in an endodontics office hidden up on the third floor of a building only a couple of minutes walk away from the King Street Metro. Though they didn't complete the job there; when I get back from Britain I'll have to go to my regular dentist to get the crown put in. The staff there were among the most kind and considerate I've ever been treated by, even making the effort to sooth me through the numbing process. Though I might have been paying for that; even with the insurance paying for 40% of it, the bill came to 800!
They also numbed the left side of my mouth so thoroughly I was actually feeling quite fine at the end of it, to the point that I happily jumped back on the train and returned to the office to finish the packing job I'd started earlier that morning. Though when I stopped for lunch en route, if only to take with the high-strength painkillers they'd given me, I discovered eating to be a bit more painful than I'd anticipated. (It's only been the past couple days that's finally gone away.) When I walked back into the office and emailed everyone to announce my return, I got a bunch of completely stunned responses. At least I managed to convince the two other people on site I really was okay, and without them making me talk too much. I don't think the numbness completely wore off until I was only my way home nearly five hours later.
Since then I've had a fairly unremarkable week, watching U.S. Open qualifying in the evening, since I won't see as much of the tournament itself this year. Though perhaps I'll even manage to catch some of the British coverage.
