My first Hotelpocalypse

missizzyThe email about requesting the hotels went out to San Diego Comic Con goers Monday night, too late for me to switch my telework day. I instead went in this morning carrying a post-it with twelve hotel names scribbled on it, most of them named by my sister as ones we wanted. Almost all of them downtown, but I threw in the cheaper one in Coronado Beach as my last choice-if I get that one, I can take it as a sign.
When the clock hit twelve and the waiting room turned into the queue, I was thinking about wait times, and going out to shelve what I'd just cataloged, because I thought surely I'd have time, and what if I was waiting past quarter to one when I usually do my daily shelving round, and what wait time I'd initially get. But I never got a wait time at all. Instead the little green guy streaked across his loading bar, and I was into the website and at the request form in what might have been less than a minute. It probably took me longer to get the form filled out, the hotels selected in order, and my requests submitted. I was so shocked I didn't even notice the dates were wrong; I wouldn't hear about that for hours, until after we'd already been reassured the dates would be right when we actually booked.
My sister also got into the website within five minutes. It seems a lot of people got in very quickly; they were up to processing them all at once, it seems. Which means we still don't know how many people booked before us, and where we'll end up. But I'm optimistic we'll get something, at least.
