Yesterday was when the temperature started to drop. It was in the thirties when we woke up in the morning with the rain outside, then began the decline through the thirties as I started my final workday before my five-day break, with mom commenting we'd be okay so long as the power stayed on.
It went off around ten, just as the rain was turning to hail. Mom tried to report the outage by phone and got really angry when told she had to do it by internet, since without power we don't have wifi. I don't think she quite grasped that this did not deprive our phones of net access, even as I reported the outage via mine. Without internet access I couldn't work, and meanwhile the temperature outside was now in the 20s, and of course we didn't have heat anymore either. Finally at a bit past noon, with no estimated restoration time, we fled for Old Town and a lunchplace that was heated. Ironically I think the power came back not long after that. After dipping into a CVS to look at their portable heaters and discovering such things do not necessarily say whether they take batteries on the outside, we returned home to find it back. Good thing too, since the temperatures hit the teens not long after that.
Today I think the high was barely in the 20s, and getting groceries was none too pleasant, but thankfully the power has not gone out since. The cold's predicted to persist until the back half of next week, though next weekend the high might be in the 60s!
