Oct. 11th, 2022 06:35 pmSpent three days at New York Comic Con, plus one wandering around a bit of New York. It may be the second time I've gone, but it was the first one where the event was fully blown, with almost all the tickets sold and events continuing on into the evening, though I found for the most part I wasn't up to lasting that long, except, of course, when there was a Legend of Vox Machina panel at 7:30 PM. My sister was far busier, to the point that we only did the commute together on Friday, because her need to finish editing things or catch up on her sleep kept her from heading to the Javits center until later. The crowds were crazy, to the point it couldn't help but make one a bit nervous, especially since while there was supposed to be a mask mandate, it really wasn't enforced at all. So far, though, neither of us have suffered worse than a lot of leg and foot pain.
The Legend of Vox Machina panel was an obvious highlight, especially when it started with getting to watch Scanlan sing, continued with us all watching Matt cry and get hugged, and ended with us all going nuts at the news that we're getting season 3. Friday, meanwhile, we all got fed by the other Prime shows, with the Rings of Power panel reinforcing just how large an undertaking that show really is, the Good Omens panel getting surprise virtual appearances from both the leads, and Wheel of Time showing us more from the upcoming season I'm likely to ever get around to fully absorbing before it comes out.
Though the biggest reaction I heard from my sister was actually at the panel for His Dark Materials, when the trailer ended with the return of Lee Scoresby, followed by a short comic video from Lin-Manual Miranda. (A little weird, since we've read the books, so we knew he was coming back, but hey.) We also attended the panel on the new Muppet series, and I also got to a panel of Broadway nerds, including Mason Alexander Park, and to the L.A.V.A. improv show, which may not be something I'd be a regular at, but I was glad to see once.
Despite the floor being a bit crazy, I did make some purchases, and got a bunch of Vox Machina pins and stickers while walking into that panel. I now have more Trinket and Pike stickers than I know what to do with.
