missizzyFound out yesterday that apparently nowadays, Black Friday sales actually start the weekend before. Or possibly even earlier than that, because I really have not been paying attention. Absurd as that may be, I've got to be grateful for it, since it meant I got mom her gold-plated chains for very little. She is getting me the newest Mary Beard, so that just leaves presents for and from my sister and brother-in-law to deal with.
I suppose if all else fails, I could ask for the second Wheel of Time book, but I'm genuinely not sure how my sister would react to that. It was her words that dissuaded me from going beyond the first back in the day. At NYCC they talked about how it was a breakthrough series for its time, at least in mainstream fantasy, especially for its use of significant powerful female characters. Watching the first episode today, I was made aware of how much like a lot of other series that have shown up since it is, though they were very smart in how they adapted it and even how they wrote it in general.
