I decided to go to AwesomeCon today, taking the day off, in the thought that maybe it wouldn't be as crowded. I ended up getting there a little after eleven, when the floor didn't open until twelve, though they were letting people in. The lack of lines while we went through the entry checks made that seem like a good idea, but around the time I found myself lined up with everyone else with half an hour to go before we could go anywhere, I started wishing I'd stopped for lunch first. Would've had a better quality lunch than I did, too.
But that turned out to actually be worth it, because it was how I ended up sitting at a table eating it with a Fearne! Only Critical Role character I saw all day, which was one more than I'd been expecting anyway. (I'm holding out a little more hope for next year, though they'd probably be based on the animated versions, then.) I got a photo with her, though I forgot to ask for permission to post it publicly. Perhaps there wasn't as much cosplay as there has been on some occasions, but I still spotted plenty, included a Jessica Rabbit and a Merida.
I also discovered that wandering the floor is a little different if you're specifically interested in buying dice. I never realized so many people sold them. I did end up getting some, of course, along with my usual jewelry and art.
None of the sessions today looked appealing enough to be worth the effort, so I just spent two and a half hours on the floor and went home. Next year perhaps I'll return to the full-blown convention experience. This year I just wanted to be there a little.
