I've now started watching the earlier episodes of The Mighty Nein on the bike machine, since I still haven't seen the majority of the episodes, and I am currently into the back half of episode four. This is, of course, the section of the first campaign we didn't see, where everyone's trying to cope with their lack of hit points and spell slots, which must have been especially hard after they'd gotten used to playing their higher-level characters. That's it's own kind of interesting, and its own kind of nerve-wracking. But the thing that stands out now is all the moments where we only learned their full emotional significance later, such as Caleb's speech to Toya, and the whole scene with Nott in the courtroom. I can also finally see why people shipped Fjorester for so long, even if they both needed to do a lot of growing before they were actually ready to be more than just friends and travel companions.
And then, this morning, I watched *that* scene, where Beau exposed her abuser without even realizing she was exposing anything, and hells, you can hardly blame her for assuming the worst of the Cobalt Soul, especially after the violent "you need this experience to be like us" way Dairon recruited her. But then, of course, we get that comment about authority from her, and now you can't help but hear those words as ones she was also deliberately flinging at Zeenoth. I've seen people speculate Matt created the latest twist in that story in response to people's comments about the Cobalt Soul, but it seems equally likely his galaxy brain (and loving husband brain) already knew from that scene onward Dairon was going to do what the authority figures from his wife's college failed to do. And now one of things I'm currently most anxious about is how their sanatorium misadventure could affect Beau's standing in the Cobalt Soul, and even Zeenoth's trial.
And while I'm hardly enamoured of Molly the way so many people seem to be, I am really sorry he didn't last longer. He was interesting, not to mention entertaining.
