missizzy: (skating)

Evgenia Tarasova & Vladimir Morozov cannot be just a little strange. No, if they deviate from the classical style, they are required to go all-out trainwreck and leave everyone wondering what the hell they just saw, although how badly they skated last night probably also added to the effect. (If less so when all the pairs were showing the effects of Salt Lake's altitude.)
Also, Ashley Cain-Gribble, as she's apparently become now, & Timothy LeDuc are officially the next great American pair. They were truly wowing me last night even when they too weren't at their best, and even when the latter had such a bad week, beating Tarasova & Morozov is a statement from them. Apparently we're not rid of the Knierims just yet, but I rest easier knowing we have a pairs team that's actually better than them now.
We might have also just seen the arrival of the next great Japanese guy, though these things are hard to predict sometimes. Yuma Kagiyama is turning into quite the young showman, and right now he seems to have the technical goods. I wouldn't mind seeing him win the JGP Final at all.
I haven't gotten the chance to watch any of the ladies' frees from Gdansk yet, but I'm sorry we won't see Anastasia Tarakanova at said Final. She seems to be going back to her own style again, and she took yet another overblown cover of "House of the Rising Sun" and actually made it work for her short.
