Jun. 23rd, 2019 07:41 pmWent to two more sessions at the ALA conference today. Even though I left the house two hours before it started, I didn't make the one about MarcEdit with much time to spare. It turns out this individual-designed piece of cataloging software is really very popular; it was so crowded I was one of multiple people who ended up sitting on the floor. My second session about electronic resources where a bunch of mostly corporate people told us how they create their information resources wasn't quite so crowded. Though the day's moment of zen happened in between them, when I spent half an hour wandering around the vendor exhibits, and ended up having a conversation with a robot named Oscar. Yes, one of the vendors brought a robot; I didn't even catch what they were called. I think he mistook me for a child because of my height, though he denied it.
Tomorrow George Takei is speaking, but alas, I booked my vacation to New York long before I thought I'd ever be going to an ALA conference, so my ALA conference experience is now over. There's only so much I can do there anyway, but I'm never going to be good at networking. So tomorrow I'll be on the train, gone until Saturday.
