An eventful couple of days
Oct. 31st, 2012 06:08 pmPower went out about 9:30 Monday night after having already failed for about 10-15 seconds multiple times and was out until about 2:30 the next day, much sooner than I had expected it to come back after the big storm last July. It seems DC simply didn't do as badly in this storm as they had in that one; from the talk of the office today, it seems the majority of people didn't lose power, and not too many trees knocked down, though lots of branches and leaves; the bus stop was practically carpeted with leaves and pine needles this morning. My sister came over earlier in the afternoon with news about how bad things had been in New York, since we'd lost power and with it access to news before some of the worst of it happened. We really weren't having a bad time of it at all; dad made the fire so we were warm, and they were even able to go to the opera they had tickets for at the Kennedy Center that night.
I instead went with Laura on a appointment at a hairdresser who found the time to give me a trim, and we were sitting there, she reading her iPhone, when through that medium the tidings reached us of the purchase of Lucasfilm by Disney, and the impending Episode 7. I figure so long as they put a good person in charge of it and include Mara Jade it should be all right, though the stream of horrific Star Wars-Disney puns everyone in my sister's feed was tweeting was amusing. We ate out in Hard Times Café, which was really crowded.
Back to work today after two days off, and everyone's computers were acting up, including mine, leaving me unable to do much of my work until things were finally fixed around 2. Also, the pasta bar that's been in a cafeteria every Wednesday wasn't today. I'm hoping that's just an abberation due to the storm. I went down to lunch early, and people were very dismayed when I brought the news back.
