Hurricane Day
Oct. 29th, 2012 07:39 amGlobal warming being what it is, I suspect for much of America's East Coast hurricane days will become the new snow days, except a bit more dangerous, but those kids who don't need to evacuate probably won't notice. Here in DC in many ways this is feeling a good deal like a snow day from my childhood, except that I don't need to worry about making it up later; being an adult is nice in some ways. So far its been continually raining for some time, but it doesn't feel like any real kind of storm yet; the latest predictions don't have that happening until the afternoon. We have charged up all our cellphones, debated buying batteries but we don't have much around anymore that use them, and brought some wood in; dad says if the power goes out he'll try to cook for us on the fireplace that we haven't used in years and years, not since we got the cats; we're a little worried how they'd react.
Saw the Met broadcast of Otello over the weekend. Mom loved seeing Renee Fleming, but I don't think I can be entirely comfortable with any production that uses blackface, even if they claim very few men are able to sing Otello, and they were at least prudent enough to once make it tanface.
