missizzy: (broke)

When I was looking at the Labor Day schedule for the U.S. Open, I actually had hope of seeing Naomi Osaka live. But then we went into Arthur Ashe to see Madison Keys, and the line to get back into Louis Armstrong was ridiculously long, and I suspected we wouldn't get back in before her match was over! I still think staying in Ashe was the right call, though I'm sorry for missing out.
That was a great day for my sister and I all together, even ending with her eating oysters and me eating something at least edible on the lawn by the plaza (and briefly going to watch a junior doubles supertiebreak), but it seems things have not gone well at the place since we left it. Culminating in this. Serena at least didn't behave as badly as she did back in 2009, and while one can see both sides of the story on the coaching accusation that started the whole mess, calling the umpire a thief should not have counted as a code violation. She was right when she said that plenty of men have called them worse, and recently. I hold that you can't cite the misbehavior of John MacEnroe and other older players for why Serena shouldn't be punished; the men today wouldn't get away with what they did either. But "thief"? I've heard worse at the Citi Open.
And now the ladies doubles final has a Trump support in it, so I'll only be watching the men's singles. Kind of hope del Potro wins, but I'll settle for no more painful disasters.
