I have had to remind myself today that if the survivalist crazies raising mayhem in Oregon tried to go anywhere near the Pentagon, they would *probably* be arrested, simply so that I don't have to be afraid of going into work tomorrow. Although even when I do go into work, I always keep my badges in my purse and only put them on at the last minute, and I take them off each day as soon as I'm away from the building. This is what we are instructed to do in anti-terrorism training, just in case anyone happens to be on the bus who might want to hurt someone who works for the government. It is, of course, highly improbable that your particular bus will contain some Muslim terrorist actively looking for a target, although admittedly it is actually not impossible. But now, I find myself thinking it's not really the foreign terrorists who are the ones on the bus you don't want knowing if you work for the US government.
(Actually, they advise you not to mention on social media who you work for either. But most of us don't take all their advice anyway. I decided the risk of talking freely here was minimal.)
And these racist terrorists who scream about their guns and property rights(it's no coincidence they went after a wildlift refuge headquarters. They see anything preserved as things they don't get to do what they want with), they certainly don't like the government, and for multiple reasons, not all of which get stated. And they don't like government employees. Especially because a lot of them are black. That's something a lot of people don't realize, but anyone who knows anything about government employees knows. When I in-processed my first day working for DoD, I was one of only a handful of white people doing so(I was also the only woman, but that's another story). When right-wing politicians rail against government employees, their motives are often racist. Those men in Oregon? They sure as hell would shoot most of us if they could.
I wish the mainstream media would say these things. Social media at least is willing to call them terrorists, and I'm pretty sure my anti-terrorism refresher training will include this weekend's events on their list of examples; white terrorism is freely listed there. But even there, the whole truth is not told. Will it ever be?
