Re: The Naval Yard. I work for a government contractor, in administrative security. (I've probably mentioned that before, but just in case I haven't, it's relative to my point.) Our physical security force is largely unarmed; they carry mace. The only armed individual on campus is our on-site NCIS agent. We've reached out to County and State Police, asking for a presence to be on campus (we'd be paying them OT to work their off hours). We just recently introduced an active shooter prep guide, and ran a lock-down drill. The reaction of the staff? The majority are annoyed, or even amused. "That will never happen here." And yet, every time something like this happens--just for a moment, they stop complaining about bag checks and all of the other rules. But give it a week, and we're back to being the bad guys.
