Dec. 5th, 2021 12:24 pmIt was largely a week of pain. My arm stayed sore until Wednesday, by which time my other shoulderblade was hurting up a storm, and that's still in pain. And that's leaving out other painful difficulties this week.
Really, that booster shot had better do *something* against the Omicron variant. We are the majority of us enduring way too much at its hands for it not to.
But for more comforting things, it was also a week where I was able to go around with the voices of Robbie, Liam, and Laura filling my ears. I knew I wanted the audiobook as soon as I heard the latter two were voicing their characters, though I've got the print on hand as well. And it turns out the audiobook of Kith & Kin is very much a come for the twins, stay for Robbie affair. Apparently he's done a lot of audiobooks, and he's *really* good at them. All warm smoothness, good voices, and rising the drama when it's time to. Thanks to a trip I took out to Tyson's Corner yesterday I'm now about halfway through. It's brilliant work on Nijkamp's part too. Of course as a fan she was going to do her best for the world and the twins, and she gets to provide Vex and Vax with the rich inner workings and history to support the two characters we've all known and loved. But also I'm genuinely in suspense and anxiety about the other characters and the story, too-we know the twins are going to come out of it fine, but we come to care also about the people of the two vicious warring factions they've gotten themselves entangled with, whose fates hang in much more doubt. (And you knew one of them was likely doomed from the moment you realize he's currently the one in possession of Simon, which adds a properly tragic air to his developing relationship with Vax.)
