Back when it was announced there would be a Mighty Nein Origins comic on offer for Free Comic Book day, I marked that down as a post-quarantine thing I would do, a return to the tiny comic store in Old Town I'd been a patron of since I was a kid, that had beaten the odds, it seemed, in how long it had survived. Except it didn't survive the pandemic. That loss has never felt real; even my mom was shocked to hear about it. So today was instead going to be a bittersweet one.
I instead had the go looking up metro accessible stores in DC, and found one at Dupont Circle. Not the biggest place-which means they were another store still only allowing a few people inside at a time, and I ended up waiting nearly an hour to get in! But I got my damn comic, and for good measure I bought a random D10, because they were selling RPG/game stuff too(I even saw Uko'toa on sale, but I've noone to play that with), and Poe Dameron: The Gathering Storm.
Mighty Nein Origins proved a very short and sweet affair, sharing space with a much more depressing Witcher story. I've read through most of The Gathering Storm as well, which left me feeling a bit dropped into the middle of a plotline, but I am loving how it manages to make Threepio into a badass without him really breaking character!
