Sep. 5th, 2024 07:04 pmThe cat beds, scratching posts, and similar are all still exactly where they were when Ian left the house for the last time on Friday. The only place we could put them is the attic, and getting the biggest of those things up there, and then down again when we get new kittens, is way too hard to be worth it. Even though we're now at the tail end of kitten season, so we might not be able to get new ones until next spring.
What has instead made it sink in for me that both our cats are now dead is unloading the dishwasher. I used to take the plates we put the catfood on out first, because in the cabinet we have them underneath the large bowl we serve the pasta in, so it's easier to put the plates away before the bowl. But those plates aren't in the dishwasher anymore. It's not unknown for us to use them for other purposes, but we haven't yet. Also, yesterday, I came home from work, momentarily worried about getting the wet food down, then remembered there's no longer anyone to put it down for.
And yet, my life is going on. This morning I bought a ticket for my first ever Critical Role live show. I've booked a Friday badge for PAX Unplugged, since might as well go to the think the show's part of, and booked a hotel room for a couple extra days. It may well be the only time I'm ever in Philadelphia/Camden, so I want time to see the place.
And Saturday, I have my first date in, I think, a couple of years. I had pretty much given up on dating until recently. I think it's actually thanks to Baldur's Gate that I'm trying again-or, rather, all the comments I've seen online by various women who have apparently found husbands Gale reminds them of. I suppose I've started dreaming once again of a dorky, nerdy man to hold me.
