Queen's Shadow is proving a much quicker read than Corinne; I finished the third part of it this morning. I'm enjoying it very much, and quite like the Naboo, the Padme, and the handmaidens that EK Johnston has crafted out of the remaining canonical sources, even if it contradicts so much of what has come before. It will probably drastically alter what I write in my own stories about the handmaidens, even though making that completely compliant with the new canon will truly be impossible. The plot seems a bit loose, and generally secondary to the character studying; my mother would call it a piece of woman's fiction indeed.
Watching the French Open yesterday, I was deeply impressed with both Ash Barty and Dominic Thiem, though of course I've seen the latter plenty lately. Also Amanda Anisimova, though those who have watched American tennis these past ten years will know well her true test is only just beginning; she'll be another young blonde North American girl hyped to death, and the question is whether she has the ability to survive that. Thiem meanwhile might have done his big achievement for the year, because I don't think he's beating Rafa today, but even is that doesn't happen yet, it may still happen sooner than anyone expects.
