Jul. 3rd, 2012 08:02 pmMonday I swapped stories in the elevator with people about losing power and trees getting knocked down. The woman I work with only got her power back last night, and the guy in charge of the office went to a hotel Sunday night so he could have a hot shower Monday morning. Lucky indeed to get power back Saturday night. The building was actually running on a generator yesterday; the local grid was still down, and we were ordered to turn everything off before leaving in anticipation of the switch back in the wee hours today. I mean everything; the security people were going around in the afternoon turning off the printers of the people who had left already and hadn't thought of that(I turned off mine and my scanner before I left later). The office had a few more empty desks than usual, too; several people taking the July 4 week off. The rest of us got to go home 59 minutes early today.
Song by One Direction on the radio becoming very big guilty pleasure; they know how to pump a listener up. It amuses me to see the next generation do their boyband fangirling. Apparently one of the guys in this band is Muslim? World developing all the time.
Tomorrow we go to a barbecue run by a bunch of James Joyce fans. That might be interesting...
