I have learned to do original cataloging! Before now, I typically only cataloged our new acquisitions when they already had records available for download in OCLC, the big website that has library records for everything and also records for who holds what, and also Library of Congress call numbers attached to those records. But I spent the later part of the week creating new records in OCLC for various military regiment yearbooks, most of which bore call numbers that began with UX, which is actually not a Library of Congress classification, just something we made up to attach to our materials on individual military regiments to group them together. Bit of a problem, actually, because one of the yearbooks doesn't have a call number, so I have to figure out a scheme created by people now long gone years and years ago in, so I can figure out where in it it fits. Have now also figured out call numbers for two more items which did have records in OCLC, but not ones with call numbers already attached. One about space warfare was actually pretty easier, but the other about Chinese cyber power gave me a huge headache. Friday morning, I was actually thinking original cataloging was pretty fun, then OCLC started acting up...
French Open tomorrow, although really, it won't be the same without Roger. I also intend to make my first attempt at recording my latest song, which I kind of want to be done with at this point.
