My Call of the Netherdeep part, after recruiting the shapeshifting sorcerer/paladin cousin of our dwarven blood hunter/wizard, finally finished things up in Bazzaxon last night. We actually surprised the DM, since when we further delayed entering the temple of Torog to explore other passages, fight probable thralls of Lolth, and find a chapel for multiple betrayer gods that freaked poor Schist out big time, he figured it would be the same deal when we finally went in. After a fight inside the temple where most of us ended up getting compelled to attack each other, we found ourselves facing an obvious entrance to the temple's heart, and two alternate passages, and he noted at the session's end that he'd thought we'd go down both of them first. Also that it was a good thing we didn't go down one of them, since apparently there had been some very bad things down there. I used the necklace to turn my fellow drow invisible and he explored the other passage, which turned out to be a shifting labyrinth, but he got back out after a few hairy turns.
But terrifying places and encounters aren't all that Matt Mercer is known for, and when we did go down to the lower chamber, first we got another vivid vision of Alyxian-and in the process the necklace gave its location away to Aloysia, who had told us she was looking for it, and had very much not known we had it. That's when the rivals showed up, and she ordered them to kill us so she could get the necklace. But because we'd been friends with them, and they'd come to like us, they refused to, and when she was outnumbered and out of spells slots she ended up teleporting out with only a final spell scroll to collapse the chamber to give us trouble. It really is good to be good to people when Matt's designing the module.
After escaping the caves, we got an invitation to Ank'Harel from the city's Cobalt Soul people, and we ended the session by teleporting there. But we did get to pop into the barracks first and have a little competing with the local soldiers. Except I'm not sure Schist is the best at that, really, since when she entered a three-round archery contest she missed all three of her shots! Should've stayed out of it and written a proper letter to her parents, instead of the short note she scribbled instead.
Now she's got an awakened vestige, which is exciting, but is stuck in a very sunny place, and may need to go shopping for some protective stuff. I wouldn't mind also getting something to enhance her crossbow bolts, or, maybe more importantly, her aim with it. Her hit rate is still low enough I am not looking forward to being put at disadvantage by sunlight sensitivity.
