With our bugbear monk joining us for the second session, we more or less finished the first chapter of Call of the Netherdeep last night, although we haven't quite left Jigow yet, and at least one character isn't sold on our current plan. We ended up skipping the rest of the standard festival events in favor of buying our rivals drinks, which at least improved their opinion of us greatly. (Though apparently there was not any bars created in Jigow for this adventure; our DM ended up using a bar naming generator!). Then both groups got invited to square off to retrieve a prize from some underwater caverns, and we ended up fighting more aquatic wildlife, where my eldritch blasts continued to have distressingly low hit rate, but the DM used them to break up the wall and get us into the secret cavern where we had the vision of Alyxian in need of rescuing; one could see Matt's storytelling style and ability in that sequence of events. We also ended up with Dust of Dryness, and accidentally flooded an inn room trying to figure out what they were. I ended up taking Prestidigitation as my new cantrip when we leveled up.
As we went to bed in drier rooms that night, I decided to end the night by asking my archfey patron is she'd ever heard of Alyxian. We'd gotten the idea he was from before the Divergence, and I'd established in my backstory that she'd told Schist stories from that time, so it made sense for her to ask. I figured the DM would just have her say she hadn't-especially after he admitted he hadn't read my full backstory yet! But instead he sped-read it, had me roll a pair of D100s, and when I rolled well enough on the second, it was my patron who first suggested we go to Bazzoxan. The DM and I briefly went into a separate audio channel for this scene, and I was a little worried about making the others wait(though he'd already said we were leveling up, so they spent the few minutes doing so), but he was very happy after that scene; it was a way to direct us to our next destination that worked perfectly in the story.
Except that while Schist told the others the next morning they should go to Bazzoxan, she's definitely not ready to tell them about her archfey patron, so justifying this has been a bit more difficult. My fellow drow apparently has an old friend there, so he's for it, but the Kobold druid is insisting we haven't decided yet, even as we did our bit of shopping and prep to leave town. That could make an interesting beginning to next week's session.
Tomorrow my in-person group also starts a new campaign, at least in theory, though I don't even know if anyone else has finished creating their new characters yet. But my Eglendae has her backstory written, her stats, spells, and items set up in D&D Beyond, and even her miniature and her jewelry sitting by me; I put a circlet on as Varvara's Necklace of Adaptation on a whim a year ago, and now I'm having too much fun wearing my character's jewelry to not do so when she's a high-born bard.
