Thursday night, when I first saw the runtime on this week's episode of Critical Role, I was a bit put out, since five hours meant it would interfere with my watching Cain-Gribble & LeDuc's Olympic debut, which I remained determined to do, and give me less time to finish The Legend of Vox Machina. Indeed, I only finished the latter after my workday Friday evening. But it did mean there was lots of good stuff to watch, especially since it was about halfway through episode 10 that I realized that while I'd been enjoying the hell out of the series, it was only now it was getting really, really good. The last episode especially took advantage of the medium, taking the deep dive into Percy's psyche they couldn't do at the table and delivering all the feels-Vex's "take the mask off" actually wasn't a moment that caught my attention too much when I watched through the campaign, but they truly made it iconic in that episode.
And while it was a little awkward trying to watch Cain-Gribble & LeDuc while this week's episode wrapped, it was worth it to give Robbie/Dorian a proper sendoff. We're all sorry to lose him, even if we knew we probably would, and you felt it for the characters, since of course *they* didn't know they were going to lose him, and the cast all portrayed that well. Still, at least he's not going home, which was really to be dreaded, but instead gets to keep traveling and remain Dorian for a while long. And I am certainly looking forward to seeing Opal and Dariax again. (I really hope!)
I'm also now nearly done watching the episode backlog; I'm two hours into episode 76. Of course, hearing Matt talk about Uthodurnian chimneys, one must now wonder how in the hells they clean them out-which we now know was not something our dear DM would've thought about at the time.
